Notes for this person

Geboren in Tafelhütten Nr. 1. Paten: Innozenz Köck, Stiftsbesitzer in Korkushütten oder Schlemmerhof Nr. 8, und Elisabeth, dessen Ehegattin. Lt. B. chruch/church]: "Came from Winterburg Bohemia by boat with good friend, Frank Montel.Settled in Oshkosh in a community of "low German" speaking people. Joseph worked in a brewery in Oshkosh until he saved enough money and then he sent for his sweetheart Catherine Kirschbaum. The men working in the brewery sent part of their earnings back to the old country to help pay passage for their families and friends to come over to the land of opportunities. When back in the old country he used to walk in the Black Forest where he would twist a sapling tree. After time when he was ready to come to America he cut the tree and made it into a cane. He brought the cane to America. The cane is quite short as he was not a tall man. Meg Korbisch has the cane. His father was a blacksmith and made for Joseph I a wooden trunk to bring his few possessions to America in. Rosie Korbisch (Egging) has the trunk. Married in St. Vincents in OSHKOSH, the same church Tony & Louis were baptized in. He continued to work in the brewery and send money back home until 1887. The money helped bring the old Resch's over to America too. Moved to village of Aniwa in 1887 when Louis was a baby. Joseph worked in a saw mill in Aniwa that was owned by Henry Sherry. In Aniwa he lived in the 3rd house south of the St Boniface church. Railroad locomotives stopped in Aniwa to replenish their fuel. Coal was not used in the late 80's on this railroad so engines had large funnel shaped smoke stacks as they were fueled by wood.s In around 1891-92 the saw mill burned to the ground so Joseph bought the Moeshler place to start farming. Joseph became a citizen of United States on March 27, 1928 at the Langlade County Court House."
