Max Fiegen Had Resided In Community Forty Years, was Born in Germany, Came To This County At Age of Seven, Was past 81 Years of Age.

Max Fiegen, passed away at his home in Dell Rapids, SD, on Tuesday morning, October 2, 1951 at 8:30 after an illness of several months. He was 81 years, 4 months and 12 days old. Mr. Fiegen was born in Bavaria Germany and came to this country with his parents at the age of 7 and settled in Clinton County Iowa. He was united in marriage to Mary Gebhart in 1897 at Remsen, Iowa. They moved to Dell Rapids in 1911 and have been residents of this community since.

To this union 9 children were born, 2 daughters and seven sons. One son and one daughter preceded him in death. Surviving him are his widow, one daughter (Nora) Mrs. Ralph Pierret of Pipestone, MN, and six sons, John, Lawrence, Sylvester, Martin and Arthur of Dell Rapids and Maynard of Howard SD, 46 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Mrs. Joe T. Galles of Marcus, Iowa and Sister M Isabel of the Sacred Heart school, Sioux City, Iowa and one brother Will Fiegen of Dell Rapids.

The funeral was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Thursday, October 4. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery, Dell Rapids. Pall bearers were Ed Burkard, Clarence Klein, Vic Pierret, Ray Heinemann, Russell Martin and Fred Anderson.

Out of town friends and relatives attending the funeral were: Sister M Isabel, of Sioux City, Iowa, Joe T Galles, Cletus Galles, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Galles, Mr. and Mrs. Red Galles, Mr. and Mrs. Cy Delaney, Bob Galles, and Mr. and Mrs. Francis Bauler all of Marcus Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gebhart, Orient, SD, Frances Gebhart, Alexandria, SD, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Bunkers, Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Bowar of Colman, SD, Mr. and Mrs. George Gebhart and family and Mr. and Mrs. Don Short of Elkton, SD, Henry Gebhart , Dimock, SD, Miss Anna Bowar, Faulkton, SD, Mrs. Clara Fiegen and daughters of Flandreau, and Mrs. Mae Sornson of White SD.
