The spirit of Westward Ho! came upon them and they yielded to its appeal. They evidently considered the problem, for some time, in fact Job made an advancetrip to Ohio, before the question was settled. Isaac J Allen, a son of Job has left this record regarding that trip, - "My father and two or three others had gone there (Knox Ohio) previous to the removal to view the and secure farms; had traveled together on horseback across the mountains and returned,m a full thousand miles in all". This spying out their lands in advance of actual migration, was not uncommon and as a most practical proceeding, for obviously it would have been a journey without definite objective. This trip was made in 1813. or possibly earlier. The reason for leaving for Ohio, probably was for the lure of the cheap but highly fertile lands to be found in Ohio. Had the reasons for the migration and the discusions held relative thereto in the family circles been preserved, what as interesting chapterwould be added to the family history.
