She was enumerated in the 1920 census (as Mrs. A. G. Comings) in Russia Twp., OH, age 64. Obituary: Mrs. A. G. Comings of Oberlin is Called by Death Oberlin -- Mrs. A. G. Comings, 97, a native of Oberlin and one of the city's oldest residents died at the Haulk Rest Home this morning at 8:50. Before moving to the home some time ago she had resided on Elm Street. She had been in ill health for the past five months. Mrs. Comings, the former Emilie Royce, was born in Oberlin on Mar 27, 1856 and was a life-long resident. She was one of the oldest living graduates of Oberlin College, having been graduated with the class of 1877. She was a lifelong member of the First Church and a former member of the Oberlin Sororis. For many years she was president of the W. C. T. U. She and her husband A. G. who died in 1932, operated the A. G. Comings and Son book store on West College Street for many years. Mr. Comings, who had been superintendent of schools at Conneaut, came to Oberlin in 1887 to bid the Royce family goodbye before going on to Washington state to teach, Instead of travelling farther west, he was persuaded by the Royce family to remain to run their book store for a year. At the end of that time he bought out Miss Emilie's father and the couple wed. The Comings had one son and one daughter. The daughter, Mrs. Harriet Bleck lives in Okmulgee, Okla., and the son, Charles, died in 1945. Two of Charles' four sons, Leo and Fred now operate the shop which still bears the name A. G. Comings and Son. The other two grandsons are Gordon of Oberlin and Eugene of Bryan. There are 12 great grandchildren. Also surviving Mrs. Comings is her son's widow, Mrs. Charles R. of Elmwood Place, who has been a close companion to her mother-in-law through the years. The body is at the Cowling-Sedgerman Funeral Home pending funeral arrangements. Friends may call after Saturday noon. (Chronicle Telegram [Elyria, OH], Friday 31 Jul 1953)
