Lizzie was one of five children. When her father died, there was noway a woman could support her children and herself in those days. Lizziewas taken in by two of her mother's brothers. Garland and Burder Fergusonbefore the war. After the Park servise took over and they moved to Maggie Valley,Lizzie got a Mr. Roten at Dellwood to make her coffin of walnut wood. Itwas hauled to Maggie Valley on a wagon. She lined it with white cloth,satin or taffeta, then it was stored until it was nedded. She made herburial clothes of white cloth. No one had ever seen her wear whitebefore. She had always worn navy or black. Her hair was still black, onlya few grey hairs under the ball of her hair she wore in the back of herhead. When she died, her body was taken back to Cataloochee for burial asshe had planned and buried in the family cemetery, upon the hill back ofthe barn.
