Im Anschluß an seine Lehrzeit ging er nach England zur weiteren Ausbildung und war dort in einem bedeutenden Exportgeschäft tätig. Nach Rückkehr in die Heimat wurde er 1883 Teilhaber des väterlichen Betriebes und übte in der Folge einen bestimmenden Einfluß auf die weitere Entwicklung beider Firmen, insbesondere aber des Röhrengeschäfts, aus. Ebenso betrieb er die Erweiterung des Werkes in Jekaterinoslaw (Dnjepropetrowsk, Ukraine) durch den Bau eines Siemens-Martin-Stahlwerks. ZurVersorgung des bestehenden Röhrenwalzwerks Düsseldorf-Oberbilk entstand in den Jahren 1889-90 in Duisburg-Großenbaum ein Puddel -und Stahlwerk; es wurde in der Folge durch ein großes Siemens-Martin-Stahlwerk und neue Walzwerksanlagen erheblich ausgebaut. Nach 1900 wurde auch das Rohrschweißwerk von Düsseldorf-Oberbilk nach Großenbaum verlegt, wo inzwischen moderne Anlagen zur Fertigung von Gas- und Siederohren errichtet worden waren.</p>
