Karl's parents died early and his Aunt, MissScheel,completedhiseducation. Karl, his two sisters and his Auntmoved toStettin,Germany.
Karl's father was the Postmaster in Jauer, Silesia(nowJawor,Poland).Germany had recent l y c onquered Silesia and itwasFrederick, theGreat,custom to appoint German nationals in po s itions ofauthority. Karl studied law at Halle and then was employed bytheStettinCityGovernment until his dea t h . His last work was the construction of anewcemetary named "At the King's Door". Since he died as soonas it was finished, he was the first one buried there, which had been designed by him and constructed under his supervision. In recognition of his achievements fo r t he City,theynotgave this place of his last rest for free, but issued acertificatefora l l t ime. The Document states:
Your request for a fence around the grave of yourfatherisaccordinglygranted and the collection of any feestherefromforfeitted.At the sametime declare that this installation wil l b e, notonly forcertain yearsbut for always. In recognition ofhis life longdiligencew i t h whichyour father, as a member of thiscommittee, promotedtheconstruction ofthis commun i t y cemetery and inthe memory that hewasthefirst to findhis place of rest there. Stettin, Aug.12, 1840 Boettcher decendants should be interested to note thatthe"Logengarten"in the Unterwie c k o f Stettin, which today (abt1870) isthe proberty oftheLodge, was still the Boettcher F a mil yproperty during the seige of Stettin in 1813.
