Karl was raised in his parents home in Stettin andattendedhighschoolthere. In 1810 h e w a s sent to the EstateLieberoseinNiederlausitz tolearn agriculture. After serving his appremticeship he enlisted on April 13,1813asaVolunteer Jäger in the K o l berg Infantry Regiment and onApril23,1814was made a Second Lieutemant in the Second West phalen-LandwehrInfantryRegiment and on Nov. 25th he was promoted toFirstLieutenant inwhic h c apacity he took part in the War of 1815,belongingto theWestphalenReserve Regiment. After his return from France he became Adjutent and Accountantonthepaidstaff of the 7t h W e stphalen Landwehr Regiment, whichwasaLandwehrBattalion created out of the 35th Infantr y R egimentatDüsseldorf, whichwas quartered at Grafrath, near Solingen. OnOct21,1821 h e w a s made aCaptain and transfered on his own requestin Jan1828to the 17thInfantry Regime n t a t Wesel as senior CaptainandCompanyChief. On July23, 1834 he was made a Major and o n M a y39, 1844aLieutenant Colonel ondon May 27, 1847 Colonel of theRegiment. Regretfully due to health reasons he had to requesthisretirementthefollowing year, whi c h w as granted on June 27, 1848withthe privilageofcivil care and permission to wear the re g ime ntaluniformwithouttheactive insigna and received a lawful pension of 1400dollars. He was a Knight of the Order of the Red Eagle, 4th Class andaholderofthe commenorative C r o ss from the Commenorative Order of1851. In the year 1847, he bought a small estate, Mechembruch,nearWesel,whichhe sold in 1854 w i t h the condition he be permittedto livethereforseveral years by paying a curtain amou n t o f rent,
