1 Details: Obituaries: alice swartz SWARTZ, ALICE ANN MITTELSTAEDT, 78, born January 11, 1926, died October 5, 2004. Alice was born and raised in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with a degree in English Literature, where she met and married the love of her life, John Swartz. They moved to Irving in 1971. After her youngest child graduated from high school, she began her career at the City of Irving Public Library, beginning as a clerk, and retiring in 1989 as Supervisor of the Circulation Department. Upon her retirement, she began volunteer work at Baylor Hospital-Irving, greeting visitors at the Information Desk. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, and an active member of Woodhaven Presbyterian Church and PEO. She was a woman of quiet dignity and enormous resilience, a wonderful sense of humor, and infinite love for her family. She instilled in her children a sense of kindness to others, as well as a knowledge of how to write a thank-you note. Her beloved John predeceased her in 1979, but they are finally together again. She is survived by her sister, Gertrude Borcherdt of Manitowoc, Wisconsin; her son John Swartz of Houston, his wife Debra, and their children Sandra and Steven; son Charles Swartz of Trophy Club, his wife Pamela, and their children John and Michael; daughter Anne Swartz Cushman of Corinth, her husband John, and their son Phillip; and a host of wonderful friends. We owe an enormous thanks to the tender mercies of Dr. Robert Weisberg and Dr. Michela Caruso and their compassionate staff. The family would also like to extend a special thanks for the loving care of Ms. Pauline White of Comfort Keepers, and Rick Schreier, RN of VistaCare Hospice. Graveside service 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 8, 2004 at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving, followed by a Memorial Service 11:00 a.m. at Woodhaven Presbyterian Church, Irving. Rev. Shannon Kershner officiating. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please send a memorial to the Friends of the Irving Library, VistaCare Hospice or the charity of your choice. Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home 606 W. Airport Frwy.
