1 Details: FRED L BECKER DEAD Well Known Wagon Maker Died at His Home on Market St Sunday Morning LONG A RESIDENT OF CITY Leader In the Work of the German Methodist ChhYch and Superintendent of Sunday School for Over Thirty Years Fred L Becker the Market Square wagon maker and one of the pioneer residents of the city died at his home on Market street at an early hour on Sunday morning after a long illness from bronchial troubles Mr Becker had been ill for many months and his death was not unexpected to friends who had been watching at his bedside The funeral will be held from the German Methodist church at half past 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon and interment will be in the family plat at the city cemetery Frederick Ludwig Becker was born in Freidenwald Prussia German on March 19 1839 He came 'to Kenosha with his mother in 1852 and had been a resident of the city ever since that time Shortly after he came here Mr Becker went to work in the Bain Wagon works where he learned the trade of a blacksmith He was employed in the factory for many years but more than a quarter of a century ago he opened his own wagon making shop on Market Square The shop is one of the old land marks of the city During his business life in Kenosha Mr Becker had won the esteqm of all A man strictly honest his word was as good as his bond He had a large business among all classes of people in the city and county and held the highest respect of his customers The death of Mr Becker comes as a hard blow to the German Methodist church for he occupied a place in the church that will be a hard one to fill When the German Methodist congregation was organized more than fifty years ago Mr Becker was one of the original members He was a devout Christian man and always took a great interest in the advancement of the church in Kenosha and in the state He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the church for more than thirty years and for a similar time he had been the superintendent of the Sunday school He was a great friend of the children of the congregation and had done much to advance their interests Politically Mr Becker was a Republican and he had held an honored place in the party He had been elected a member of the Board of Education and until two years ago he had been a member of the county Board of Supervisors In 1863 Mr Becker was married to Mifcs Wilhelmine Baumann of Waukegan who-died in the winter of 1890 In 1893 Mr Becker married Miss Minnie Schumacher of this city who survives him The surviving children are Edward C and Fred of Kenosha Frank and Charles who are employed by the United States Government at Washington and Mrs C Hansche si this city -
