Marine, 17.6.1917 Leutnant zur See, 1.1.1921 Oberleutnant zur See, 1.1.1928 Kapitänleutnant, Okt 1934 Korvettenkapitän. aus: www. oakleafmilitaria.com/German_Uniforms: Waldemay Winther entered the Kriegsmarine on April 17, 1915. After basic training Waldemar Winther served on the liner "Koenig Albert" from April 1915 through September 1918. In 1921 he was promoted to Oberlt. Zur See. Following the First World War, Winther served in the Kriegsmarine holding a number of postings which included a number of training liason positions. He served as Navigations officer on the cruiser Koln September 30, 1935 - October 26, 1937. At the outbreak of WWII, Kapitan zur See Waldemar Winther (promoted 11/39) was Chief of the Officer Personnel Battalion at the Naval Station of the North Sea (1937 - September 1942). He assumed command of the light cruiser Leipzig in September 1942 - February 1943. After commanding the Leipzig, Kapitan z. See Winther held positions that included Commandant of the Kriegsmarine War School Murwik (April 17, 1944 - September 24, 1944) and Inspector of Training Affairs of the Kriegsmarine (September 25, 1944 - July 22, 1945) during which time the war ended. Knoteradmiral Winthers entered captivity July 1945 and was released April 17, 1947.
