Notizen zu dieser Person

Birth: May 4, 1820 Ohio, USA Death: Jan. 31, 1893 Vanderburgh County Indiana, USA William was a son of Isaac & Sarah (Dickerson) DeLong. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1850 - not found in census. 1849-50 - md. about this time Mary Ann Willard b. PA, May 22, 1832, dau. of William and Sarah "Sally" (Chenowith). Mary Ann was 18 in Hanover Twp. in 1850 living with parents. The surname in this census was spelled Williard; this spelling and PA origins suggest the family was of the German Williards/Willyards rather than the New England Willards. 1851 - first child born in June. (James Albert Delong b. Hanover Twp., Licking Co., OH, Jun 17, 1851) 1860 - had settled Claylick area of Hanover Twp., Licking Co., OH. They appear in Hanover census he 40, b. OH, she 27, b. PA. 1862 - he enlisted Aug 1 as Pvt., Co. F 95th Regt, OVI at Claylick. (This info learned independently from "Hist of Licking Co." and from his pension appl. in Indiana.) 1863 - Wounded in right eye at Vicksburg, MS in June. (Civil War) 1865 - mustered out Louisville, KY, Aug 14. There is no indication he returned to Ohio. It is unknown whether he deserted, or was divorced from, Mary Ann Williard. By 1865-6 (birth of first of their three children), he was married to Mary ___ who was b, KY. 1867 - settled about this time in Vanderburgh Co., IN (resident about 25 years at time of death in 1893; actually probably here (born) by 1865-6, all children by Mary being born Indiana). 1870 - (Wm J. probably in Vanderburgh Co., IN, although neither found in census index for this county) 1870 - (ex-wife Mary Ann probably in Licking Co., OH) 1879 - Mary d. about middle of March, bur. Schaufner's graveyard, Vanderburgh Co., IN. At that time they "were living and working for them [Levi Land and wife] at their farm in Union Twp. about a year before said woman died. At the time of her death, she was living with her husband on a boat in Union Twp. opposite Henderson, KY" [from 1893 affidavit by the Lands. The name looks like Sand in the text but clearly Land in the signatures. Also see 1900 below]. 1880 - Perry Twp., Vanderburgh Co., IN, William J. 60, b. OH of German father (very unlikely) and English mother. Three children (Saml. J., Frances J. & Mary A.), all born IN to OH f. and KY m. 1880 - Licking Co., OH, Mary Ann was 48, a widow, b. PA of PA parents. Also dau. Eliza H. age 10. 1884 - md Union Twp., Vanderburgh Co., IN, Aug 26 Rachel Jane (Diety) Edmond widow of Michael who d. Nov 8, 1881. (Source: widow's pension appl.). She was b. IN, Oct 1850 (1900 census) but 41 at his d. 1893. 1888 - his service record, returned to Commissioner of Pensions by War Dept Apr 21, file *639,600. 1893 - he d. Union Twp., Vanderburgh Co., IN, Jan 31, age 72-8-27, bur Edmond Cem. 1893 - Declaration for Widow's Pension, R. Jane Delong of Union Twp, Feb 14, widow of William J. Delong who enlisted Aug 1, 1862 Pvt Co. F 95th Regt, OVI. Her file #570,680. 1893 - Mar 9, affidavit Louis Thompson of Union Twp that R. Jane Delong's former husband Michael Edmond d. Nov 8, 1881. 1893 - Mar 10, affidavit by Joseph Schaefer, undertaker, that he had buried William J. Delong Feb 1. 1893 - May 27, affidavit Mary A. Land 57 and Levi W. Land 56 - - William J. Delong was previously married to Mary wh(sic -who) died about middle of March 1879, bur. Schaufner's graveyard, Union Twp. three children, two of them dead, the youngest over 16 when soldier died. 189_ - she was granted pension for her two underaged children. 1900 - Union Twp., Rachel J. b. Ind., Oct 1850, age 49. She and two ch. were boarders, or vice-versa, with Louis and Belle A. Lamb. This should be rechecked, this may well be the Mary and Levi Land of May 27, 1893 affidavit. 1909 - Obit for Mary Ann (Willard) DeLong: (from N. Francis) Mrs. Mary A. DeLong died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Perry Terpin, Logan Avenue, Amherst, (Lorain Co., OH) Monday morning at 4 o'clock, at the age of 77 years, following an extended bout of cancer. The funeral services were held at Brushy Fork at 11:30 a.m. The deceased is survived by two daughters Mrs. Perry Turpin of this city and Mrs. Theodore Lake of Black Hand. There are also three brothers living, Asbury Woolard (sic), George Woolard and David Woolard, and one sister Mrs. Margaret Williard. I assume Asbury might be William A. I do not know if "Mrs. Margaret" was a sister-in-law or perhaps sister Sarah M. Strange that son James Albert is not mentioned. Cedar Hill Cem. records confirms Mary Ann as his mother.
