Er erbte Twixlum von seiner Mutter Margarethe Addinga.
1499 diente er als Heerführer auf der Seite Groningens.
1519 nahm er den ev. Glauben an.
Im Juni 1526 initiierte und organisierte Ulrich von Dornum das sogenannte Oldersumer Religionsgespräch in der Oldersumer Kirche.
Ravinga nennt als Sterbedatum den 12. 3. 1536, andere den 12. 4.
