Hermeta SPANGLER

Hermeta Ruth George, 91, formerly of Olathe, passed away Jan. 8, 2004. She was born Jan. 19, 1912, in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Charles Edward and Rhode Ellen (DeTalent) Spangler. Hemeta grew up in the Waldo area and attended Southwest High School. Hermeta and Russell Wilburn George were married April 16, 1933. They lived in Overland Park and Stanley before moving to a farm south of Olathe in the 1940s, where they resided until Russell's death in April 1973. Hermeta and Ralph Burchett of Lawrence, KS, where married June 10, 1976. They lived at the farm in Olathe until health reasons separated them in July 2000. Hermeta moved to assisted living and then to a nursing home. Ralph resided with his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Ron Cool of Arnold, NE, until his death in August 2003. Hermeta was a longtime member of the Christian Science Church in Olathe and a member of the Mother Church in Boston, MA. She was a reader in the church and a supervisor and purchasing director of the Christian Science Reading Room in Olathe. In the 1950s, Hermeta distributed Christian Science literature to the Olathe Naval Airbase. In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, two brothers and a step-grandson, Scott Cool. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Delores George of Olathe; daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Merrill Tarr of Overland Park; stepdaughter and her husband, Nancy and Ron Cool of Arnold, NE; two grandsons and their wives, Terry and Kerry George of Gardner, KS, and Michael and Robin Tarr of Smithville, MO; two granddaughters and their husbands, Debbie and Dave Ramirez of Olathe, and Stephanie and Paul Dunn of Austin, TX; and a step-grandson and his wife, Shane and Lana Cool of Arnold, NE. Hermeta is also survived by great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 14275 S. Blackbob Rd., Olathe, KS 66062, (913) 768-6777, where the family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the service time. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe. The family suggests memorials to either the Salvation Army, 3637 Broadway, Kansas City, Mo 64111 or to Odyssey Hospice, 9229 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64114.
