Notes for this person

Gladys M. Frick passed away peacefully with family present October 28, 2013 at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado. Gladys was born Feb. 5, 1919 in Chicago, to Henry and Clara (Albach) Maier. Her family owned and operated the Mai-Roe Bakery Co. in Chicago and she had fond memories of the sweet rye bread sold in the family's bakery. Gladys met her husband, Walter, while studying at Elmhurst College. They married in 1940 and moved to Barrington during World War II to work on the family farm. Gladys was actively engaged with her community, church, charity, and volunteer activities throughout her life. She was an avid traveler and enjoyed music, crossword puzzles, spending time with friends and family, and most recently, playing hide & seek with her great-grandchildren. She lived in the Barrington area until she was 92 years old, when she moved to Colorado to be closer to her son, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gladys is survived by her son Bud (Page) Frick, granddaughters Dianna Frick, Lauren (Dave) Tremblay, and Kyla (Mike) Waldron, five great-grandchildren, sister Lorraine Goletz, and brothers Henry (Marilyn) Maier, Willard (Coletta) Maier, and Leonard Maier. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, and sisters Eleanor, Bernice and June. A gathering with family and friends will be held at 3 pm on November 23 at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 401 E. Main St. in Barrington. A memorial will follow at 4 pm. Burial occurred at Acacia Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gladys' name to a charity of your choosing. Published in Chicago Suburban Daily Herald on Nov. 20, 2013
