PEORIA JOURNAL OBITUARY -- June 30, 1977
Services for Mrs. Anne M. Uppendahl, 85, of 1010 NE Glen Oak, widow ofDr. F. H Uppendahl, will be at 10:30 am tomorrow at St Mary's CatholicCathedral.
The Rev. Eugene Kane will officiate and burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cumerford-Endsley Memorial Home.
There will be no visitation.
Mrs. Uppendahl died at 3:05 am yesterday in St. Francis Hospital whereshe was admitted June 11.
Mrs. Uppendahl had long been identified with civic groups in Peoria. She had been active in YWCA work, League of Women Voters, Women's Civic Federation, Peoria Council of Human Relations, Lakeview Camp and PeoriaCivil Defense.
She was a past president of the Illinois Valley Unit of the Associationof Parliamentarians and had been parliamentarian for the Catholic Women's League and Women's Civic Federation.
Mrs. Uppendahl also was a past president of the Women's Auxiliary of Peoria Dental Society, League of Women Voters and Peoria Civic Federation.
She was one of the prime movers of the council manager push in Peoria,serving as vice chairman during the 1952 campaign and later as vice president of Peorians for Council Manager.
She also was active in Peoria Historical Society, serving on the boardand having charge of Morron House at one time. She also was a former member of Peoria City Zoning Board of Appeals.
The League of Women Voters awarded her a lifetime membership last Aprilfor her contributions to the league and community.
Mrs. Uppendahl was born in Rankin Sept 10, 1891, a daughter of John W.and Margaret Molloy Murphy and married Dr. Uppendahl in Peoria Sept 1,1922. He died here March 13, 1958. A resident of the current address since 1955, she was a member of St Mary's Cathedral.
She received her degree from Northwestern University and did graduate work at Bradley and Wisconsin Universities. She also attended Leland Powers School at Boston, Mass.
Surviving are one brother, Leo Murphy of Evanston, One aunt and one cousin. A brother, Edward Murphy of Rochester, N.Y. preceded her in death.
Memorials may be made to Peoria Historical Society or the charity of the donor's choice.
