Notes for this person
"Heinrich" was born in in a small town called Tauckenbrinck - part of the Wechold community - Nienburg, Lower Saxony, Germany, on 26 November1819, son of Heinrich Dietrich and Mette Margarethe Elizabeth (Clausen)Meyer. He married Anna Dorothea Ritz, daughter of Johannes Ritz and Christine Elisabeth Deichmöller, on 19 July 1846 in Vacha, Germany. His occupation was a wagon builder.
The New York Passenger Lists show that Heinrich & Dorothea arrived in New York on 06 October 1857 aboard the Ship "Union." With them were: sonJohann, age 11; Conrad, age 9; Dortjen/Dorothea, daughter, age 7; andAnna, age 3.
The family first settled in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. According to Dorathea's death certificate, they were probably in Illinois for about 15 years. In Cook County, four more children were born to Heinrich and Dorathea: Catherine Dorothea Marie in 1859 (she died in 1866); Eleonora Christina Dorathea in 1861; Friedrich Heinrich Carl in 1864, and Catherine in 1869. Catherine must have died very young, as she only appears in one census record, and that is the 1870 census in Benton County, Iowa. It must have been right after Catherine's birth that they moved toIowa, since she is shown as being born in Illinois in 1869, and appears in the 1870 Iowa Census.
Heinrich was a farmer in Iowa, and stayed until after 1900. His wife died in 1890. When his youngest son, Carl, moved out west, Heinrich wentalong and stayed with that family until his death on February 5, 1905.He is buried in Blackwell, Oklahoma, and his wife, Dorathea is buried in Germantown, Iowa.
