Hickman, Adam Service- Virginia Va. No. 8278 No. S.38030 Enlisted Berks County, Pennsylvania, 1775, and served as a private in the company of Captain George Nogle and Captain Neal in the Pennsylvania Line under Colonel Oulds or Colonel Utrey. Pension granted in Harrison County, VA, in 1819, and discontinued in 1820 as having too much property, but was reinstated when reviewed by Secretary of War, October 5, 1820. Died February 1833. (West Virginians in the American Revolution by Ross B. Johnston, pgs. 132- 133) Adam Hickman b. ca 1741 came to the U.S. from Holland (probably sailed out of) but was of German descent. He first came to Baltimore, MD, then settled in Berks Co., Pennsylvania. He was of small stature and a soldier in the Revolution, he enlisted 1775 Captain Nagle's Army. He later took up land in Hooppole Run, Harrison county, (W.) Virginia. He lived to be very old and never seemed to be feeble. He had a straight posture. He was a farmer and is buried along with his wife (Margaret Adams) on land later owned by John Raikes in Harrison Co., W. Va., just opposite the Willow Beach lands, back on a hill a few hundred feet from where two persimmon trees were standing. WILL of Adam Hickman Senr, Harrison Co., (W.)
