Notes for this person
ONE KILLED, FIVE HURT IN AUTO TRAFFIC HERE MRS. MYRTLE C. ROSER, DIES AFTER CRASH AT INTERSECTION THREE ARE ARRESTED Nearly a dozen accidents, which resulted from motor traffic in this city and York county over the weekend, caused the death of one person and injuries to five others. Several of the injured are confined to hospitals because their injuries will require a course of treatment. The accidents resulted in three arrests for violations of motor vehicular laws. The victim of the fatal accident was Mrs. Myrtle E. Roser, 43, of 366 Norway street, who died from a fractured skull which she sustained in a collision of an automobile driven by her husband, C. Ray Roser, with one operated by John C. Shue, 540 East Philadelphia street. The fatal collision occurred at the intersection of Market and Yale streets about 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Another passenger in the ill-fated car was a son, George W. Roser, 14. The car struck, according to police investigation, Shue's roadster as Shue drove from Yale street onto East Market. Officer C. H. Armstrong; of the Spring Garden township police, and Acting Coroner L. Edward Zech were told by Shue that he had stopped at the Yale street stop sign, noted no automobiles approaching in either direction, and started to make a left turn, toward Hallam. a As the front wheels were on the car tracks in the middle of the street, Shue heard the screech of brakes and an instant later his car was struck on the right running board and right fender. The Roser car, also traveling eastwardly on the Lincoln highway, turned over. Thomas Gosnell, 375 West North street, a passing motorist, removed the injured woman to the West Side sanitarium. Surviving besides the husband, are four children, Earl, Charles, George and Jane, all at home; her mother, Mrs. Seadon Knisley, of Red Lion, and the following brothers and sisters: Earl Knisley, of York; Walter Knisley, of Red Lion; Mrs. George Rohrbaugh, of Red Lion; Mrs. Clayton Seachman, of Chester; Stanley Knisley, of Red Lion; Stewart Knisley, of Red Lion, and Mrs. Herald Brown, of York. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock from the home of her mother, Mrs. Seadon Knisley, 225 West Broadway, Red Lion. Interment will be in the Dallastown Union cemetery. Funeral Director Furnace B. Olewiler, Red Lion, has charge of arrangements. The York Dispatch, 16 August 1937, Pages 2, 16. https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-york-dispatch/140100624/
