DOVER-Susan Y. "Sue" (Wilhelm) Zirkle, 47, died Friday, February 20, 2009 at York Hospital after a year and a half long courageous battle with cancer. She was the loving companion of John J. Quinn to whom she was faithful for 15 years. Following cremation, a Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 12:00 PM Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church,2121 Roosevelt Ave., York, with her pastor, the Rev. Skip Nizinski officiating. A visitation with the family will be held from 11-12:00 PM Tuesday at the church. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. 1551 Kenneth Road, York, is in charge of arrangements. Ms. Zirkle was born June 24, 1961, in York, a daughter of Helen Darlene (Zimmerman) Wilhelm of Dover and the late Robert S. Wilhelm, Jr., who passed on January 3, 2008. She was a 1979 graduate of Dover Area High School. Sue was the Corporate Catering and Sales Manager for the Holiday Inn, Holidome and Conference Center in York. She valued and cherished her work family and all the clients that she met over the 25 years of her employment. Sue was a life member at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in York. Sue loved puzzles, Sudoku, crocheting, gardening, woodworking, and reading, especially Steven King novels. She enjoyed decorating and would often rearrange the house to fit her mood. Sue was a very outgoing person and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and her beloved dog Sophie. She was always known to put extra cheese on everything and enjoyed Busch beer. During her childhood years, she loved playing piano and visiting Ocean City, MD, where she would enjoy the warm sun. One fond memory her children have of her is singing Respect by Aretha Franklin and dancing with them when they were younger. In addition to her companion, Sue is survived by two sons, Robert E. and Kainan S. Zirkle both of Dover; three grandchildren, Elyce Marie, Garrett Lee, and Korbin Michael Zirkle all of home; three sisters, Kathy A. Wilhelm of Dover, Debbie L. Harberger and husband Steve of NC, and Elizabeth D. Robison of Enola; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Garry E. "Boog" Zirkle. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Patient Help Fund, 45 Monument Road, Suite 200, York, PA 17403
