John Robert Armstrong, age 66, born to Gaylon and Rita Armstrong on May 2, 1949, in Faulkton, South Dakota, died in his home on Monday, July 13, 2015. He was the third of twelve children and as the oldest son, developed a strict work ethic milking the family cows. He remained in South Dakota, until enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1967.
He relocated to San Diego, California, and began working for a service station installation and repair company where he remained for seven years. He obtained his electrical contractor’s license and started his own company specializing in gas station construction, remodeling, and maintenance throughout southern California and Arizona. At the age of 45, John retired to Umpqua.
John is predeceased by his brother Raymond.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Suzi; his sisters Dorothy, Linda, Paulette, Elinor, Rosemary and Irene; brothers Alan, Marvin, Jeff and Glen. He was dad to Toni, Tara, Mathew, Dann and Andy; and Papa to Trevor, Kristin, Johnny, Tessa, Deja, Jemma and Danni.
No local services will be held. Interment will be held at the Miramar National Cemetery on Monday, September 21, 2015.
