Notes for this person

James Meng was an Ensign in 1798 under Capt. Samuel Shelton in theMilitia in VA. In 1807, Prince Edward Co., VA, James Meng wasappointed and qualified as a justice . In 1806, he was appointed asone of two new Captains in the Prince Edward Militia. In 1807 hequalified for the office of Magistrate (The History of Prince Edward,by Herbert Clarence Bradshaw). James moved to Union SC about 1810. Theold home place was on the banks of what is now Meng's Creek. The oldhome was torn down about 1970. His son, Clough, lived in Union and hishome built about 1840 is still erect and in use as of this printing.On histomstone is Col James Meng(Presbyterian Cenetery).
