Notes for this person
Martha Walcke was baptized at Holstein. She is the daughter of Carl Walke, and Lisette nee Kathje [sic] born on May 14, 1836 but not baptized until March 18, 1849, with godparents (remember her parents are dead) of Krohnke and Henrietta Rieger. (Henrietta is Pastor Rieger’s wife) Joseph Rieger arrived in America from training in Basel, Switzerland, in 1836 and was a traveling evangelist, later filling the pastorate at Holstein for 13 years. He must have followed Pastor Hermann Garlichs. In 1847 he was travelling between Pinckney and Marthasville when he took the assignment in Holstein without pay.
