Notizen zu dieser Person

She was called Frieda.

Birth:
She was born at 11 a.m. on the 4th of July 1884 in her parents' flat in 52 Korn Straße in the suburb Neustadt in Bremen. Her parents were Karl Eduard Franz and Marie Mulde. (B1)

Childhood and Youth:
Wilhelmine Balcke told me that she was called Frieda. She attended the Buntentor primary school for eight years. She learned well.
Wilhelmine Balcke also told me that Frieda Mulde's parents bought a house at 44 Gellert Straße in the suburb Neustadt. The family moved there.
Wilhelmine Balcke told me that Frieda Mulde wanted to learn tailoring.
Wilhelmine Balcke told me that when Frieda Mulde was 14 years old, she had to leave school and work as a maid. She had to work long hours and was given little to eat. She worked in the household of the owners of the Herms bed-linen company. Later she worked for the Krahn family, who lived at the corner of the Frühlings Straße and the Lönings Straße. It was a life-long contract, but because she worked well, the Krahn family released her from her duties, when she wanted to marry.

Marriage:
When she was 26 years old, on the 26th of November 1910, she married the single Diedrich Mohrmann in Bremen. (B1)
Wilhelmine Balcke told me that they moved into a flat in the York Straße in the suburb Neustadt. She had two children before World War I started.

World War I:
In 1914 the World War I broke out.
Wilhelmine Balcke told me that whilst Diedrich Mohrmann had to fight in the war, Frieda Mohrmann and her children moved back to her parents' house in the Gellert Straße. Diedrich Mohrmann lost a leg after an injury caused by a grenade.

Peace Years:
Wilhelmine Balcke told me that in January 1919, after the war finished, the family moved to their new house at 39 Alexander Straße in the suburb Ostertor. Frieda Mohrmann opened a stationary and toys shop in their house. She had two more children.

World War II:
World War II broke out in 1939.
Wilhelmine Balcke told me that Diedrich Mohrmann did not have to fight in this war. They stayed in Bremen. Their house was not damaged.

Peace Years:
He died in 1948.
Wilhelmine Balcke told me that she gave up their garden when her husband died.
Wilhelmine Balcke told me that she had to fight court battles to prove that her husband's death was caused by the second world war, so that she could obtain a war widow's pension. She eventually won.
Wilhelmine Balcke told me that she liked knitting and sewing. She was hard working. She wished her whole life, that she had been given the opportunity to learn a trade. She was active until her death.
In 1959 she lived in a flat on the first floor of the house in 39 Alexander Strasse in the suburb Ostertor. Heinz and Wilma Balcke and their children lived on the ground floor and a part of the first floor. Frieda Mohrmann was always friendly. I think she missed her husband.

Death:
Frieda Mohrmann died at 3.25 p.m. on the 4th of May 1969 in Bremen. She was 84 years old. (B1)
Wilhelmine Balcke told me that she was suffering from cancer in her stomach.
