George O. Borneman, 66 of 414 Maple Row, Elkhart, Ind., a county office holder for more than 16 years and a retired hardware store owner, died this morning, Apr. 27, 1954, in General hospital. He suffered a stroke at his home Monday afternoon. He had been in failing health since the fall of 1950. At the time, he was elected as county treasurer. He resigned this position because of his health after only one month in office in February of 1951. He was succeeded by Charles Link, who complete's Borneman's term Jan. 1, 1955, and now is Republican candidate to the office. A lifelong resident of Elkhart, he was employed as a teller at the St. Joseph Valley bank, and by the New York Central railroad. In 1915, Borneman and his younger brother, the late Fred Borneman, opened the Electric Hardware store at 515 S. Main. The brothers operated the store for 21 years.
