Details: George W Becker 86 of St Joseph’s Home for the Aged 9244 29th’ Ave died there Tuesday (Feb 17 1998) Born May 26 1911 in Kenosha he was the son of the late Gustav and Louise (Licht) Becker He attended fjLrV ft Washington and — McKinley schools in Ken osha and Kenosha Technical School He was employed by Gallagher Awning In 1935 he opened Becker Awning which he operated until his retirement in 1973 He served with the US Navy Sea Bees during World War II in the South Pacific On June 271936 he married Beatrice “Betty’ Schmelling in Kenosha He was a member of First United Methodist Church Kenosha Lodge 47 and F & AM He was also past president of the Kenosha Gem and Mineral Society and past chairman of the Gem Show He was a member of the Good Sam Camping Club the National and Upper Midwest Industrial Fabrics Association the Kenosha Chamber of Commerce Uptown Business Association and the Kenosha Senior Citizens After retiring he and his wife traveled extensively He enjoyed fishing hunting camping and “their summer cottage at Lake Shangrila in Bristol He also enjoyed his hobby of gathering swapping and" polishing semiprecious stones and turning them into jewelry Survivors include his wife at St Joseph’s Home for the Aged two sons Robert F of Kenosha and George P of Des Plaines 111 one daughter Betty Ann Banner of Manhattan Kan one sister Ida Homs of Kenosha seven giandchildren and six greatgrandchildren He was preceded in death by one daughter Gretchen and four ' brothers Rudolph Adolph Harold and Theodore ! ’ Hansen Funeral Home is in 1 charge of arrangements CLIPPED FROM Kenosha News Kenosha, Wisconsin 20 Feb 1998, Fri • Page 13
