Sarah Jane MONROE

Ochiltree County Herald (TX)-February 19, 1948: Death came quickly last Monday morning to "Grandma" Sarah Jane ZIRKLE at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Myrtle BIRCHFIELD in Lahoma, Oklahoma. "Grandma" ZIRKLE had celebrated her 102nd birthday last Oct. 2. She was born on Oct. 2, 1845 in Barron county, Kentucky and settled first in Rice county, Kansas before homesteading in 1896 in Lahoma county. In 1923, when Mr. Zirkle retired, the couple moved to the Panhandle of Texas, making their home alternately with their son and daughter, C. A. Zirkle, three miles east of Perryton, and Mrs. C. H. Willis, Canadian [county]. Mr. Zirkle died in 1934 at the age of 91 years. A large crowd of friends and relatives honored Mrs. Zirkle on her 100th birthday anniversary, which was held in the C. A. Zirkle home on October 2, 1945. Her 102nd birthday party, held last October in the home of her daughter, Mrs Myrtle Birchfield, was attended by a man who also celebrated his 102nd birthday. This man died just four hours before Mrs. Zirkle. Mrs. Zirkle had 35 grandchildren and 66 great-grandchildren at the time of her death. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon in the Lahoma Methodist church and interment will be in the Enid cemetery. C. A. Zirkle was with his mother when she died and Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Bolerjack will go Thursday for the funeral.
