Creszencia Koch (German: Kreszenz) was born in Groenenbach, Germany, 28 August 1870. The records in America show her date of birth to be 1871. Her birth record found in the Thanner family register,recorded her birth as 1870. She was thirteen years old when her mother died. After her mothers death, she and her siblings were hired out to local farmers. This seemed to be the custom in Bavaria at that time. Creszencia's job was to herd cattle in the Alps all day, regardless of the weather. It is not known how much her father was paid for her services. Her father's housekeeper was not verykind to the children so their life in Germany was rather difficult. According to census records Chreszencia came to America in 1890, at the age of 19 or 20, depending on the month she arrived. There are two family stories regarding her passage to America. One is that a cousin was in some type of trouble in Germany and his family paid Creszencia's passage to America, to get him out of Germany and have someone to look after him. The name of the cousin is not known. When they arrived in New York, he stole her money and disappeared. The family does not know how Creszencia got the money to come from New York to Fairbury, Nebraska, where she worked in a hotel until she married Paul August Nutsch. The other possibility is Chrszencia's Aunt, Kreszenz Thanner, paid Creszencia Koch's passage to America as she did for Creszencia's sister and brother. If the name of the ship that she arrive in New York on is located, the passenger list should divulge whether she came alone or with a family member.

OBituary of Mrs. Paul, Nutsch, Sister of Frank Koch Crezencia Koch, daughter of Rupert and Theresa Koch, was born August 28, 1872 in Gronenback Baveria, Germany and passed away at her home February 8, 1908 at the age of 36 years, 6 months and 10 days.On May 6, 1891, she was united in marriage to Paul A. Nutsch, at Fairbury, Nebraska. To this union eight children were born. The eldest, a son died in infancy. Those who survive are her husband, four sons, Albert P., Max P., George A., and Henry A. Three daughters, Mary T., Crezencia Josephine, and Elisabeth M. All of the home, one brother, Frank Koch, and one sister, Mary Nutsch. Mrs. Nutschcame to the United States at the age of 19 years. After her marriage she, with her husband began housekeeping on his homestead seven miles east of Mahaska, Kansas, where they lived until 1903 when they moved to their farm two miles east of Haddam, Kansas where she passed away. Funeral services were held at the St. Peter and Paul Catholic church, conducted by Father Joseph Kramer. Burial in the St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, north of Morrowville, Kansas. Pallbearers, P.J. Loch, J.G. Miller, John Janus, John Seidel, J.A. Haushel, and Thos. H. Koch. Hoffman and Pierce were the funeral directors and floral pieces, Lena Pierce, J.M. Nutsch and Mrs. John Janus.

Crezencia died in child birth. The family story says that the baby was too big and that the doctor literally chopped the baby into pieces trying to get it out. The baby was buried with her in the same casket and they are buried at the St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Morrowville, Kansas (as told to me by grandpa Henry Nutsch)
